Library Cards

Your St. Louis County Library card opens the door to a world of information and entertainment.

Use your library card to check out a wide variety of materials such as books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, video games, eMedia and more. A library card also grants you access to databases and internet at SLCL branches.

How do I Get a Library Card?

Fill out the online application or stop by any St Louis County Library location and present photo identification, such as a driver's license, showing your name and current address. If the photo ID does not include the current address, other documentation must be provided. Library cards are free to those who live in or pay property taxes to St. Louis County, St. Louis City or St. Charles County. As of September 1, 2021, SLCL has reciprocal lending agreements with the following libraries:

  • Brentwood Public Library
  • Ferguson Public Library
  • Jefferson County Library (residents of Northwest, Fox, and Windsor School Districts)
  • Kirkwood Public Library
  • Maplewood Public Library
  • Richmond Heights Public Library
  • Rock Hill Public Library
  • Scenic Regional Library (Warren, Franklin, and Gasconade Counties)
  • St. Charles City-County Library
  • St. Louis (City) Public Library
  • University City Public Library
  • Valley Park Community Library
  • Washington Public Library
  • Webster Groves Public Library

Non-Resident Card Option: Residents of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area who live outside of the areas mentioned above can obtain a non-resident card at the cost of $50 per family for 12 months. Eligible Missouri counties are Lincoln and residents outside the Northwest, Fox, and Windsor School Districts in Jefferson County. Eligible Illinois Counties are Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair. Some restrictions on database and eMedia access may apply to non-resident and reciprocal cardholders. Additionally, Interlibrary Loan Service is not available to non-resident and reciprocal users.
