Musical Instrument Lending Program Expands

SLCL is expanding the musical instrument lending program by adding several new instruments to the collection including keyboards, electric guitars, box drums, xylophones, bass guitars and djembes. The instruments are available for check out at four branches: Library Headquarters, Daniel Boone, Florissant Valley and Grant’s View. Patrons with a valid library card can take home the musical instrument of their choice for two weeks. Learn more

Hip Hop Architecture Camp

SLCL will host a Hip Hop Architecture Camp this summer at the Natural Bridge Branch for ages 12-15. The camp will take place Monday, June 3 – Friday, June 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day. During the camp, participants will be paired with architects, urban planners, designers and hip hop artists to design a unique vision for their communities. They will also participate in an architectural design competition and a rap battle for prizes. The camp is free and lunch is provided. Applications will be accepted through April 15, 2019.

ALLDATA is Back!

You asked for it and we brought it back! ALLDATA Repair is now available at all library branches. This database offers easy to find manufacturers' auto repair information. Quickly look up repair info by searching for the vehicle year, make and model. Learn more.

Thornhill Branch Opens in February

The new Thornhill Branch will reopen on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. The new branch features a colorful interior, an interactive children's area with an outdoor garden, private study rooms, updated meeting rooms, comfortable seating and more. Learn more.

Becoming American Film and Discussion Series

SLCL is teaming up with the Missouri History Museum to present a documentary film and discussion series called Becoming American. The series will examine our diverse immigration experiences from both past and present. Programs feature documentary film screenings and discussions moderated by Dr. Adriano Udani from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Learn more.

Winter Reading Club 2018-19

St. Louis County Library’s annual Winter Reading Club is happening now through February 28, 2019. Last year over 52,000 people participated in the club, which offers fun programs and reading opportunities for the whole family. Participants can track their reading online or by using a paper log, available at all SLCL branches. Learn more.

Born to Read Program Expands

The Born to Read program is expanding! Starting in January 2019, Mercy Hospital will participate in the program, which provides new parents at area hospitals with a bag containing baby’s first library card, a board book, a Cardinals beanie, information about infant development and other items. In 2018, over 12,000 bags and library cards were delivered to new parents. The addition of Mercy Hospital St. Louis will reach an additional 9,000 parents and newborns. Learn more.

SLCL offers a variety of free computer classes for all skill levels. Our trained instructors can help you learn basic word processing, or more advanced skills like Excel and PowerPoint. Learn more.

SLCL Named 2018 Star Library

St. Louis County Library has been ranked as a four ­star library in the 2018 Library Journal Index of Public Library Service for the fifth consecutive year. SLCL is one of six star libraries in the state of Missouri. The rank of four stars indicates a high per capita use in five major areas of library service: library visits, circulation, program attendance, circulation of electronic material and public Internet computer use. The ranking is based on statistics from 2016, when SLCL circulated over 13.6 million items despite having six branches closed for part of the year.

Use your library card to stream your favorite films! Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and world cinema. Films can be streamed from any computer, television, mobile device or platform by downloading the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast or Roku. Learn more.
